Photos: Man Caught Producing Fake Dollars, Pounds In Lagos

A 42-year-old man, Rafiu Olusamokun, is currently in the custody of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly producing fake foreign and local currencies, which run into millions of naira.

Mr. Olusamokun, an indigene of Owo, Ondo State, was arrested by the police in his house at Ayidolapo Street, in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

The man was a motor mechanic before allegedly venturing into production of fake currencies.
He worked with some people who are still at large. It was learnt that the police recovered an iron box full of fake dollars, pounds and naira notes from Olusamokun. Some materials such as cotton wool, paints and oil, allegedly used in the production of the money, were also recovered by the police.

Speaking with PUNCH, the suspect said he was introduced into the business by some men who claimed to have newly returned from Europe.

Olusamokun said the men brainwashed him and forced him to pay about N600,000 to purchase the materials to produce the fake currencies.

He said, “I met those people early this year. I was working as a motor mechanic, and I just ran into them. They said they recently returned from Europe. When I visited them at a hotel in the Bar Beach, Victoria Island area, they brought out the samples of the currencies they had, and said I could produce same if I wanted to become wealthy.

“I was immediately interested. A friend, Sule Sulaimon, who went with me, also became interested. Their leader said all I needed to do was to purchase the chemicals from them. He said I should bring N1m, but I eventually paid N650,000 for the chemicals.

“I did not know the samples they gave me were fake; the papers looked so original. I first gave him N400,000, and then N250,000. He said I could reproduce as much hard currencies as I wanted from the materials I had.

“The currencies recovered from my house runs into millions, but I was not through with the reproduction. If I had finished with it, I would have been a wealthy man. I would have evaded the arrest.”

A police source said that Olusamokun was to give part of the money reproduced to the syndicate, so that he could be given more materials. He added that the police were still on the trail of the group.

“The syndicate gave him the materials and the currencies to wash into original. The money is actually worth millions. He was producing €100 and €200 and pounds. The police found the fake cash in his house,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspect would be charged to court.

HORROR: This man killed his mother, cut her heart out [PHOTOS]

A man has admitted to murdering his mum before slicing open her chest and removing her heart with his bare hands.

Omar Pettigen reportedly told police he then masturbated as a "release" after mutilating the body of his mother Nailah Pettigen.

A post mortem showed the former maths teacher had been cut from her neck to her cervix and had also been shot at least seven times.

Pettigen allegedly argued with his mother, who he claims pulled a gun on him, before he grabbed a hammer off the bedroom wall to knock the weapon from her hand.

He then allegedly returned with a tomahawk and beat her before shooting her in the back four times with a gun he retrieved from a wardrobe.

The son is then believed to have sliced open her chest with a knife and removed her heart with his bare hands before putting it back in her body.

Pettigen reportedly told police he murdered his mum because she was killing herself with the prescription painkillers oxycodone, which he claims she had become addicted to after hip and knee problems and surgery.

He allegedly added that, after the sickening attack, he masturbated because "he needed to be with himself and needed a release after the event" before going out drinking with friends, charging documents seen by the Daily News show.

Police said the suspect remained calm during interview and showed no signs of remorse.

One detective reportedly wrote that Pettigen told him he felt "good" about his actions.

The family also reportedly claimed to have "seen a change in Omar since he has returned from Morocco several months prior to the murder."

He is currently being held without bail on charges of murder and desecration of human remains.

Man Cuts Own Manhood After Being Accused Of Rape

A man identified as Lekan Daramola, in Oke-Aro area of Ogun State, has decided to cut off his weapon of destruction, after he was accused of serial rape.

According to reports, the 34-year-old man was caught in the act of raping his landlord's 12-year-old daughter and after he was beaten, disgraced and paraded around the town, reportedly used a sharp kitchen knife and cut off his manhood.

A neighbour who was a witness to the bloody scene, narrated the incident:
"This is not the first time brother Lekan was caught in the act. Just last year, he was nabbed while raping a street hawker and the area boys beat him almost to death.
He was caught again on three different occasions and the last time, he lured Baba's (landlord) young daughter into his room and while forcefully having carnal knowledge of the girl, her screams attracted neighbours who broke the door of his room and caught him.

He was given the beating of his life and paraded in the town. In the night, we heard screams in his room and when we rushed there, we found him in a pool of his blood with a bloody knife beside him.

As we were rushing him to a nearby hospital, he confessed that he did not know the spirit that always got into him that made him rape girls and that it was better to cut off his joystick."

Oshiomhole clarifies position on N3.5trn pension fund

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has clarified his position on the Pension fund, saying he never accused PENCOM of diverting N3.5 trillion pension funds
because it has nothing to do directly with pension money in the first place.
He said, rather, his position is about how pension funds operators invest hard-earned workers’ money in FGN Bonds and Treasury Bills, which in turn was grossly mismanaged through funding consumption.
In a statement personally signed by him, Oshiomhole said: “recently, a section of news media attributed comments to me regarding the way and manner in which pension funds to the tune of 3.5 trillion Naira were drawn down to support recurrent expenditure and not infrastructure development. In the said reports, the impression created was that I had accused the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) of colluding with the Federal Ministry of Finance to divert the said amount.
“Considering the manner in which this serious economic issue that borders on the future of the Nigerian economy and the welfare of the Nigerian workers who make contributions to the pension funds, is being misrepresented and trivialized in the media, I wish to make some clarifications and set the record straight.
“As someone involved from the outset in the crafting of the PENCOM Act, I am very much aware that under the law, PENCOM is a regulator of the financial institutions and operators that deal directly with the management of the pension funds and pension assets, namely: the pension funds administrators (PFAs) and the pension funds custodians (PFCs). I could not have said therefore that PENCOM diverted pension money because it has nothing to do directly with pension money in the first place.
“Indeed, I recall that when the pension reforms, which led to the creation of PENCOM were being formulated, the selling point of the contributory pension scheme was that pension funds should be source of cheap and long-term funds that would be used to support programmes and investments that will enhance workers welfare such as workers’ housing and the creation of a robust mortgage system.

“However, what turned out in the management and operations of the pension funds was a completely different ball game. It is open knowledge that the PFAs are among the major subscribers of Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Bonds and Treasury Bills, which are instruments of FGN’s domestic borrowing, issued periodically by the Debt Management Office (DMO) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) respectively, on behalf of the Federal Government. FGN Bonds as debt securities are generally considered safest relative to other debt instruments in the capital market because they are governed by the “faith and credit” principle; offer attractive rates and guaranteed returns, at least in theory.
“It is, therefore, not a new revelation that total subscriptions of pension funds to the FGN Bonds are in excess of 3.5 trillion Naira or about 70% of the total funds (estimated at 5.1 trillion Naira) so far accrued under the contributory pension scheme. It is also not a secret that in the last five years under the previous administration, the Federal Government had engaged in monthly bond issuances as a means of raising finance to fund recurrent expenditure and service domestic debts, rather than finance capital projects, which was the main purpose of bond issuance if domestic borrowing was to be a productive and beneficial activity to the national economy. These are facts that could easily be verified from the PFAs and PFCs; DMO, Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as CBN, if journalists and the media they represented have gone the extra mile to find out.
“The issue clearly was not about PENCOM diverting pension funds. It was about how pension funds operators invest hard-earned workers’ money in FGN Bonds and Treasury Bills, which in turn was grossly mismanaged through funding consumption (recurrent expenditure, payment of salaries for federal employees, financing budget deficits and domestic debt servicing) rather than concrete investment in critical infrastructure, housing, etc.
“Pensions as workers savings, rather than being invested in capital projects with multiplier effects on jobs and incomes, are being invested in bonds which go into funding wasteful recurrent spending. Spending borrowed money on unproductive ventures typically generates inflationary pressures that lead to devaluation of the currency and purchasing power of workers. The net effect is that by the time these savings are required to pay pensioners in the future their real value would have been eroded quite significantly. As we have seen even in advanced economies, such kind of mismanagement of pension funds had easily sparked economic crisis that undermined the welfare of workers and retirees.
“I have followed the recent World Pensions Summit organized by PENCOM and all through experts and analysts kept emphasizing that pension funds should be invested in infrastructure like roads, power and other productive ventures to develop the national economy. The point here is that pension funds should not be invested in instruments that mobilize funds only for unproductive and wasteful ventures.
“It is in the public domain that federal budgets in the last four years have devoted as much as 85% of the budgetary outlay to recurrent expenditures including salaries. The National Assembly on whose onus rests the approval of the budget has been lamenting year-in-year-out, this is clearly bad economics, a situation in which only a paltry 15% of the budgetary outlay was devoted to capital projects and investment in the last five years. Federal legislators have also openly complained about the fact that even the 15% capital expenditure is hardly executed fully, implying that the amount devoted to recurrent expenditure will be even much higher than the 85% reported officially.
“Based on the foregoing, let me reiterate that nothing I have said about pension funds and how they have been managed in the last five years is new. Everything I have said is in the public domain and can be verified. It behooves the media and journalists to refrain from twisting and misrepresenting critical national issues such as this one, so that they will not give individuals or institutions that mismanage the national economy an escape route to divert attention or muddle-up the issues. This is a responsibility we all owe Nigeria and the future generations.”

Tension in Bayelsa over Alamieyesiegha's planned extradition to UK

Sylva, SGF Connection Uncovered*
Fresh moves to extradite ex- governor, Diepreye Alamieyesiegha to the United Kingdom are generating serious tension in Bayelsa State.

Already, many socio-political organisations have described the plan as a wrong step in the wrong direction.
Chairman of the Bayelsa State caucus in the National Assembly, Foster Ogola, condemned the plan in Yenagoa during a function where Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, was endorsed for a second term by several Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the civil society organisations.
He raised posers on the rationale for the extradition notice by Britain.
According to him, the latest moves were suspicious, adding that Alamieyesiegha had gone through a legal process, prosecuted by a competent court of jurisdiction, indicted, sentenced and was granted presidential pardon.
"What is the basis of this new extradition having gone through all legal process culminating in a presidential pardon?" He queried.
Ogola, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues in the National Assembly therefore called for restraint on the extradition moves in the interest of justice.
Lending his voice to Ogola’s position, Bayelsa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff, who also spoke at the event, condemned the extradition notice which, he said, smacked of high level conspiracy.
He accused the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state as brains behind the extradition plot which he regarded as a conscious step to destroy the Ijaw nation. This, he said, was unfortunate and a clear injustice.
He said: “The extradition notice smacks of high level conspiracy contrived by some powerful elements in the APC Government, who are out to destroy the Ijaw nation. They plotted against our son, Mr. President and denied him the opportunity of returning to power and now they are after another noble son of ours in the person of DSP Alamieyesiegha. This injustice will not stand. How many times will a man be convicted for the same offence?”
The party chairman castigated the APC leadership in the state, saying its antics suggested that it was against the Ijaw nation and why the PDP has been telling the people to reject it at the polls.
“This election is not about Dickson but the collective interest of the Ijaw nation. From all indications, the APC is against the Ijaw nation and why our people must reject it”, he said.
On its part, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has reiterated its position on earlier statement about the extradition notice, warning that the Ijaw nation will not sit idly and watch its leaders disgraced by those it referred to as “cabals’ in the Buhari administration.
The statement said that the Buhari government was being selective in the fight against corruption, asking why no northerner has so far been invited to answer corruption charges nor extradited.  Quoting a similar poser by the former Senate President Ken Nnamani, the IYC also asked why Buhari has not deemed it fit to prosecute those involved in the Halliburton scam.
Meanwhile, the APC governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, has been fingered as the brain behind the extradition notice.
A reliable source who made the claim, said Sylva’s close working relationship with the Secretary to the Federal Government, Babachir David Lawal, facilitated the extradition moves.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said Sylva instigated the decision to include Alamieyesiegha’s name among those whose names were listed in the letter which President Muhammadu Buhari took along with him in his recent trip to the United Kingdom.
According to him, President Buhari handed the list to the UK authorities as persons to be investigated and invited for questioning and prosecution.
He said former Petroleum Minister, Deziani Allison-Madueke’s name was top on the list and other cabinet members of the Jonathan administration.
The source was emphatic that Sylva had a close relationship with the SGF, stating that the outcome of the APC governorship primary was only possible because of the influence of the latter.
“To prove to you the strong link existing between Sylva and the SGF, you will recall that during the botched APC primaries, it was the SGF who directed the Inspector-General of Police to deploy the AIG that supervised the controversial election. Even with the reported violence which marred the primaries and indeed the threat to the life of Edo State governor, the AIG went on national TV to say the primaries was peaceful. So you can understand what’s at play”, he said.
Similar game plan was also said to be in the works as it was gathered that Sylva may be cashing in on his rapport with SGF to win the December 5 election in the state.
It is believed in some strategic circles that plans may have been perfected to deploy persons sympathetic to APC cause to serve as INEC officials who will conduct the election in Bayelsa State.

Meet the Naija Babe who Kidnapped Her Friend's Baby to Make Money For Her Marriage

People need to reduce the kind of pressure put on marriage. The lady above, 22-year-old Jennifer Onyinye Arinze who was arrested in Anambra with a 9-month-old baby she allegedly kidnapped from a friend’s house in Lagos State, has blamed the evil act on her 10 years of childlessness.

She was paraded before journalists on Tuesday at Lagos State Police Command. She reportedly stormed the baby’s home at the densely populated Ajegunle area of Lagos, on September 26, 2015.

Reports said mother of the baby was a customer at the petrol station where Onyinye worked as a fuel attendant in the Apapa area of Lagos.

It was gathered that while discussing with mother of the baby in her shop, Arinze took the baby out, informing his mother that she was going to buy him bobo drink.

Apprehension set in after a long wait for her arrival, following which mother of the baby, Mrs Aina Adetola, raised an alarm. But by then, the suspect had reached a garage around Orile, where she boarded a night bus to Anambra State, to meet her husband.

But the bubble burst following her arrest four days later.

Blaming her indulgence on her 10 years of childlessness, the suspect said: “While I was in primary school, I got pregnant but lost the baby. My trouble started after I got married to Mr Arinze who lives at Orifite, Anambra State. I decided to come to Lagos this year in search of greener pastures. Before leaving, I was pregnant. But on reaching Lagos, I had a miscarriage, without my husband’s knowledge.

Plot to kidnap a baby
“When the miscarriage occurred, I told myself that I won’t go back to my husband with another story again because he won’t be happy.

“I work in AP Forte Oil Filling Station as a sales girl. There I met a woman two weeks ago, who usually buy kerosene from the filling station.

I visited her at about 5pm on September 26, on my way to Boundary market . While there, she handed me her nine months old baby, saying her other children had gone to church. I was tempted to leave the shop with the baby and headed straight for a park and boarded the next available vehicle to Anambra where I presented the baby to my husband as his.

“I stole the baby in order to take care of him as mine. I have suffered so much embarrassment because of my childless state. It was the devil’s handiwork. When he wants to work, he takes total control of one,” she said in tears.

On her part, the 42-year-old mother of the rescued baby, Mrs Aina Adetola, described the five days of separation from her baby as the worst days of her life.

She said: “I neither ate nor drank anything for the number of days my baby was separated from me. I contemplated killing myself because the whole blame was heaped on me. I was sent out of the house by my angry husband, saying I should not return without his baby. I went through untold pain and anguish.

“I never expected such an act from Jennifer because she was of great assistance to me anytime I went to buy kerosene from the petrol station where she works. When she visited penultimate Saturday, I handed her my crying baby out of trust, unknown to me she had sinister motive. She told me she was going to get him bobo drink and that was the last I saw of her and my baby.”

When approached, father of the baby , Mr Adeniyi Adetola, who expressed joy over the baby’s rescue, said “we were very happy when we saw our child again. I love children so much and the idea of losing one of them shook me to my bone marrow. However, I kept praying for his safe arrival . My advice to parents is that they should be very careful and wary of people they give their children. This experience has, indeed, taught me a great lesson.”

Ex-oil minister Allison-Madueke to face trial in London

•Quizzed by UK agency for corruption, bribery, money laundry
•Fours others also
Indications emerged yesterday that former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, and four other people arrested by the National Crime
Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom yesterday will be tried in London.
Late reports from London yesterday said Allison-Madueke and the four other suspects were released on bail pending their arraignment in a London court on Monday on allegations of bribery, corruption and money laundering.
The suspects were said to have been questioned for several hours following their arrests in different parts of London four months after the British Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron, pledged his country’s support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
Cameron had in a meeting with Buhari during the latter’s visit to London in May assured the Nigerian president of his government’s readiness to provide technical assistance to the Nigerian government to aid its anti-corruption reforms.

Reports yesterday indicated that Allison-Madueke was arrested by the NCA along with four others for crimes related to bribery, corruption and money laundering.
Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was said to have been working quietly with NCA towards arresting Allison-Madueke and other Nigerians believed to have corruption cases to answer.
The EFCC yesterday invaded the Asokoro, Abuja home of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources simultaneously as she was arrested in London and later sealed it off.
According to investigation, EFCC operatives were drafted to the posh residence of the ex-Minister at about 5 pm yesterday.
While the NCA was yet to disclose the identities of the five suspects arrested in London at press time, the British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed that it had been notified of the arrest of five suspects by the NCA.
Based on a warrant, the EFCC operatives were still searching the residence of the ex-Minister at press time.
A top source in EFCC, who spoke in confidence, said: “Based on preliminary investigation, our operatives were drafted to the residence of ex-Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke for a search.
“The search was conducted in connection with the ongoing investigation of some corrupt practices during Diezani’s tenure as minister.
“We will not give you details now but the nation will be briefed accordingly soon on our findings.”
Responding to a question, the source added: “We have been collaborating with NCA for a while but we will not disclose the identities of those arrested in the UK in order not to prejudice investigation.”
A statement on the website of the NCA simply said: “The National Crime Agency’s recently formed International Corruption Unit has arrested five people across London as part of an investigation into suspected bribery and money laundering offences.”
When further calls were placed to NCA line(+442079795835), it was only a machine that was responding.
The Press and Public Relations Officer of the British High Commission in Nigeria, Mr. Joe Abuku, who spoke with our correspondent at 5.56 pm said: “Yes, I know of some arrests by the National Crime Agency, but there was no mention of their nationalities.
“Five people between the age range of 21 and 60 years were arrested by the NCA for bribery and corruption but they have not given us the details of those involved.”
Asked about the amount involved, Abuku said: “No one can say now but it was in connection with acts related to bribery and corruption.
“But the NCA has notified the British High Commission in Nigeria about the arrests.”
The NCA is the UK agency that leads law enforcement against serious and organised crimes.
It has national and international reach and the mandate and powers to work in partnership with other law enforcement organisations to bring the full weight of the law to bear on serious and organised criminals.
During his recent visit to the US, President Buhari had interacted with Nigerians in the diaspora at the country’s embassy in New York, during which he said that the Federal Government was examining evidence which could lead to the arrest and prosecution of some former ministers and other government officials who looted government funds and stole the nation’s crude oil.
He lamented that some of the affected officials were involved in illegal sale and diversion of crude oil monies belonging to the federal government to multiple private accounts abroad.
He said: “We are now looking for evidence of shipping some of our crude, their destinations and where and which accounts they were paid and in which country.
“When we get as much as we can get as soon as possible, we will approach those countries to freeze those accounts and go to court, prosecute those people and let the accounts be taken to Nigeria.
“The amount of money is mind-burgling but we have started getting documents.
“We have started getting documents where some of the senior people in government, former ministers, some of them had as much as five accounts and were moving about one million barrel per day on their own.
“We have started getting those documents. Whichever documents we are able to get and subsequently trace the sale of the crude or transfer of money from Ministries, Departments, Central Bank, we will ask for the cooperation of those countries to return those monies to federation accounts and we will use those documents to arrest those people and prosecute them. This, I promise Nigerians.”
At the UN General Assembly a few days ago, President Buhari reiterated his resolve to ensure that those who misappropriated billions of naira belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum were prosecuted.

ACF Slams Afenifere Over Call For Ban On Nomadic Cattle Rearing

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), yesterday, described as reckless a statement by the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, on the recent
kidnap of former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, by Fulani herdsmen.
The ACF said that the Afenifere statement demanding the abolishment of nomadic cattle rearing, and criminalizing the Fulani on account of the action of a few, was out of place.
“Nigeria has over 250 tribes and Yoruba is just one of them. For it to threaten other tribes just because of an alleged crime of some suspected herdsmen is unnecessary, emotional and contrary to the spirit and letters of the Nigerian constitution which guarantees free movement and association of citizens in any part of the country,” ACF said in the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mohammad Ibrahim.
The group said it “is embarrassed and disappointed with the communique issued by the respected pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, after its meeting of 29th September, 2015 held in Akure at the residence of its leader, Pa Rueben Fasoranti.
“In November 2000 when some OPC hoodlums attacked Northerners in the Southwest region, ACF did not blame it on the Yoruba, rather it urged the government to arrest the perpetrators that committed the crime.
“ACF considers criminality in any form as a serious offence and strongly condemned the kidnapping of Chief Olu Falae a former presidential candidate of the joint ticket of APP/AD in the 1999 general election which the North overwhelmingly supported him.
“ACF has in the last six years consistently decried the insecurity situation in the country especially insurgency, kidnapping, ritual killings, armed robbery etc, but it has never blamed a tribe, people or region as responsible for such crimes, talk less of threatening their free movement or pursuit of their legitimate business and livelihood. The unity and peaceful coexistence of our people have always been the guiding principles of ACF in the Nigerian project above personal and emotional interests.
“ACF therefore appeals to Afenifere and all other socio-cultural organizations and individuals to always exercise some restraint and show maturity in reacting to situations in view of the complexity of our country.
“ACF equally calls upon the security agencies to not only intensify their effort in tracking down the kidnappers of Chief Olu Falae but also put in place preventive measures to forestall such frequent ugly incidents in the country.”
